The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant prize-giving event approaches, one notices an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
